I haven’t been able to find a consistent number for RPI’s most recent acceptance rate: Although Niche.com pins it at 53%, they seem to be using an outdated SAT range. CollegeData.com pins the acceptance rate at 57%. US News is currently using the university’s class of 2026 acceptance rate (65%). I have used Niche here since I feel that a lower acceptance rate is likely more reflective of the institution.

RPI, as a school, has experienced a significant amount of turmoil over the last decade. Policies regarding teacher retention, forcing students to take a semester elsewhere, and more eventually resulted in alumni withholding donations from the school and the eventual ousting of its former president, Shirley Ann Jackson. These compalints have been documented in (what I would argue are) an infamous series of Reddit posts all titled “Do Not Apply to RPI”. The school seems to be doing better under its new president, Martin A. Schmidt.
